When Life Gets Busy, What Gets Sacrificed First?

For most of us, it’s our faith and our health.

We say we want to honor God and take care of our bodies, but when work, school, family, and responsibilities pile on, our spiritual and physical well-being are often the first things to go.

I’ve struggled with this myself.

Some days, I feel like I’m drowning in obligations—client calls, content deadlines, training, relationships. And all I want to do is sit on my porch with a coffee, talk to God, and train without distractions.

But here’s the truth: There will never be a “perfect” season where time magically opens up for faith and fitness.

We don’t find time—we make time.

If we say God is our #1 priority, our calendar should reflect that.

This week, I want to share a 10-part blueprint with real-life applications to help you stay strong, fuel your body well, and honor God without feeling stretched too thin.

The 10-Part Blueprint to Build Strength, Fuel Right & Honor God

1️⃣ Schedule Time with God Like a Non-Negotiable Meeting.
📌 Action Step: Block off 10-15 minutes on your calendar every morning or night. Treat it like an unmissable meeting.
✅ Example: Set a reminder at 6:30 AM to read a devotional, pray, or journal before checking your phone.
📖 Matthew 6:33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

2️⃣ Be in Constant Communion with Him.
📌 Action Step: Integrate God into your daily routine. Listen to a sermon, worship music, or an audio Bible while doing mundane tasks.
✅ Example: Play a podcast or the Dwell Bible app on your commute, during workouts, or while cooking.
📖 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

3️⃣ No Phone in the Bedroom.
📌 Action Step: Keep your phone outside your bedroom and replace it with a physical Bible or devotional book.
✅ Example: Use an alarm clock instead of your phone. Read a chapter of Proverbs before bed instead of scrolling social media.
📖 Psalm 119:105"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

4️⃣ Plan Your Meals in Advance.
📌 Action Step: Prep at least 3-4 meals every Sunday so you’re not scrambling during the week.
✅ Example: Grill chicken, roast veggies, and bake sweet potatoes in bulk for grab-and-go lunches that align with your goals.
📖 1 Corinthians 10:31"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."

5️⃣ Move Every Day.
📌 Action Step: Aim for at least 30 minutes of movement daily—even if it's just a walk or stretching.
✅ Example: Walk 10 minutes after every meal to aid digestion and hit 8,000+ steps daily.
📖 1 Corinthians 6:19-20"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

6️⃣ Train for Longevity, Not Just Looks.
📌 Action Step: Focus on full-body strength training and hybrid workouts that improve both strength and endurance.
✅ Example: Instead of a bodybuilding split, do 3-4 full-body strength sessions per week and include aerobic training like running, biking, or rucking.
📖 Hebrews 12:11"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."

7️⃣ Fuel with Real, God-Given Foods.
📌 Action Step: Eat whole, single-ingredient foods. Avoid processed junk, extreme dieting, or obsessing over macros.
✅ Example: Swap out sugary cereal for eggs & fruit, and replace energy drinks with water & electrolytes.
📖 Genesis 1:29"Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.’"

8️⃣ Prioritize Rest & Recovery.
📌 Action Step: Get 7-9 hours of quality sleep and incorporate active recovery into your weekly routine.
✅ Example: Set a wind-down routine—turn off screens an hour before bed, read, stretch, and pray.
📖 Ecclesiastes 4:6"Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind."

9️⃣ Guard Your Inputs—Mind, Body & Spirit.
📌 Action Step: Be mindful of what you watch, read, and listen to—your inputs shape your mindset.
✅ Example: Limit negative news and social media. Follow accounts that educate, inspire, and build your faith.
📖 Philippians 4:8"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

🔟 Say “No” to What Doesn’t Align.
📌 Action Step: Pray over commitments before saying yes. Protect your time and energy.
✅ Example: If an opportunity doesn’t align with your faith or long-term goals, politely decline and refocus on what matters most.
📖 Matthew 5:37"Let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."

Closing Thoughts

At the end of the day, honoring God with our health isn’t about perfection—it’s about intention.

It’s about showing up, even when life is busy. Making time for Him, even when schedules are packed. Stewarding the body He’s given us, not just for our own benefit, but so we can be stronger for our families, our work, and the mission He’s placed on our lives.

The way we spend our days is the way we spend our lives.
