Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.
Opening Prayer
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness, even when we’re too busy or distracted to notice it. Lord, we confess that we often chase after productivity, recognition, and the next big thing—believing it will satisfy us. But nothing compares to the peace and purpose that comes from walking closely with You.
Teach us to slow down. To let go of the things that pull us away from You. To surrender our plans for Yours. Shape us into people who love well, lead with humility, and trust You in every season. Whether we’re single, dating, engaged, or married—prepare our hearts to love like Jesus and build our lives on Your foundation.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
A Year Ago, I Asked Myself a Hard Question
It was a quiet moment on a plane ride back from Denver. I should’ve been resting—but my mind was racing.
I had a startup to build. Content to post daily. Brand partnerships to manage. A podcast to host. YouTube videos to produce.
And while all of that was a blessing—answers to prayers, even—I started to realize something…
“Do I even have space in my life to be in a relationship? To be a husband? A father?”
I was so consumed with the doing, that I lost sight of being—being present, being surrendered, being faithful.
“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” – Mark 8:36
I had become a professional appeaser, saying yes to everyone and everything, thinking that more output meant more value. But deep down, I knew I was missing something deeper.
So I started praying a bold prayer:
“Lord, remove anything that’s pulling me away from You. Kill my pride. Kill my ego.”
That prayer wrecked me—in the best way.
It didn’t change everything overnight, but slowly, God started peeling things back. One of the biggest was hitting pause on the Pure Ambition Podcast after nearly 200 episodes. I didn’t quit it—I just gave it back to God.
And right after that...
He brought someone back into my life.
When I Stopped Striving, God Moved
I reconnected with Mary Jane at a birthday party for a mutual friend. We had met once before—at an event a year earlier—but hadn’t spoken since.
That night, something was different. Her beauty was undeniable—but what struck me even more was her heart. The way she made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved.
A week later, we both showed up to a group walk around Town Lake in Austin. She didn’t know I’d be there—and I definitely didn’t know she would—but God knew.
I made sure to talk to her as much as I could during that walk. And the more we talked, the more I saw her love for Jesus, her joy, and her peace.
That night, I sent her a message on Instagram:
“Would you want to grab a smoothie sometime?”
She said yes.
The next week, we walked and talked for 3 hours—but it felt like 3 minutes. We shared our favorite verses, our dreams, our interests.
At the end of that walk, I asked if she’d want to go to dinner.
She said yes.
And the rest… has been the most beautiful unfolding of God’s timing I’ve ever witnessed.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4
The More I Loved Her, The More I Realized I Needed to Grow
It didn’t take long after meeting her to realize—God wasn’t done shaping me.
Loving someone well reveals the parts of you that still need healing.
It exposes pride. Impatience. Insecurity.
And it invites you to surrender even more deeply to God’s refining work.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” – Psalm 139:23
Through His Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, I’ve been learning what it means to lead with love—not ego. To serve, not perform.
To listen more than I speak.
To be present. To be humble.
The Bible has become more than a book—it’s become my training manual for this next chapter. And the Holy Spirit has been my daily coach, convicting me when I fall short and comforting me with grace when I do.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” – John 14:26

Now the Real Training Begins
Engagement isn’t the finish line—it’s the starting line of something holy.
I’m not just training to run faster or lift heavier anymore. I’m training to become a husband. A spiritual leader. A man after God’s own heart.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” – Ephesians 5:25
Here’s how I’m preparing in this season:
🛠 How I’m Training to Be a Husband
SPIRITUALLY
Daily time in God’s Word and prayer
Leading with Christ-like love and servant leadership
Studying Scripture around marriage, leadership, and humility
Praying with and for Mary Jane consistently
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” – Psalm 127:1
PHYSICALLY
Staying strong and energized to serve, protect, and provide
Training 3–4x/week with strength + conditioning
Prioritizing sleep, hydration, and recovery
Fueling with real, God-given foods for energy and longevity
EMOTIONALLY
Staying grounded in identity as a son of God
Practicing open communication and accountability
Seeking mentorship from wise, godly men
Creating space for rest, stillness, and reflection
PRACTICALLY
Designing my schedule around what matters most
Saying no to distractions so I can say yes to our future
Budgeting and planning for a life built on purpose, not pressure
Building rhythms that support faith, peace, and presence in our home

This Is the Start of Something Holy
This wasn’t about manifesting the right person.
This was about becoming the man God was calling me to be—before I met her.
And when I let go…
God gave me more than I could’ve asked for.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” – Ephesians 3:20
Getting engaged was the best day of my life—second only to the day I gave my life to Christ.
And now, I’m building a life that keeps Him at the center of it all.
Closing Prayer
Lord, we thank You for being the author of every love story worth telling. You know our hearts better than we do, and Your timing is always perfect. Help us release the things that distract us from You. Help us build lives marked by humility, love, and intentionality.
Whether we’re single, dating, engaged, or married—teach us how to love like You, lead with courage, and trust Your plans over our own. May Your Word guide us. May Your Spirit empower us. And may our lives reflect the beauty of Your love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
