Opening Prayer

Lord, thank you for the opportunities you continue to bless me with. Help me have unshakeable faith and trust in your plan for my life. I surrender to you, Lord, knowing that your plans are greater than mine. Help me rest in that and seek you first in all that I do.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

How to Stay Rooted in Faith Amidst Life’s Chaos

We all know the feeling of having what feels like a never-ending to-do list of work tasks, household chores, bills to pay, social events to attend, and all you want to do is grab a pint of Ben and Jerry’s and catch up on your favorite Netflix show.

Trust me, I feel you.

Life can get overwhelming, especially in your 20s when you're juggling career goals, your health, growing in your faith, relationships, and figuring out what balance actually looks like.

But what if instead of letting it steal your joy, you could take small, intentional steps to reclaim your day?

For me, that has been carving out the first 30-45 minutes of my day to spend time with the Lord. Even though it has meant sacrificing some sleep, my faith is the most important aspect of my life, so how I spend my time must reflect that.

Here are some things to think about as you leave your inbox reading this newsletter and go about your day:

  • Prioritize what truly matters. Make time with the Lord a foundational part of your day

  • Do high-leverage tasks first. List things in terms of priority, and do the ones that will move the needle the most first.

  • Say no to unnecessary distractions. Not everything deserves your immediate attention.

It will never look perfect, but something as simple as a quick prayer, reading the verse of the day on a Bible app, or going through a daily devotional will set you up for an incredible day.

Eating for Performance vs. Aesthetics

I used to think that starving myself while training for hours each day was the best way to look, feel, and perform better.

I would watch bodybuilding YouTuber’s “full day of eating” videos where they would eat like 2,000 calories with 4 hours of training and thought that’s what healthy looked like.

All it actually did was create a poor relationship with food, wreck my hormones, cause me to lose muscle mass, tank my performance, ruin my quality of life.

I became so obsessed with looking good that I wasn’t fueling my body with what it needed, and it went into survival mode.

It wasn’t until I learned about the Triangle of Awareness from the Nutrition Coaching course I took in 2021 that I had it all wrong.

the triangle of awareness is something you look at when thinking about your nutrition goals:

  • Aesthetics (how you look)

  • Performance

  • General Health

You then place a dot where your goals lie. At the time I learned this, I was all-in on being the best football player possible, so my dot was close to the top.

Even now as I am training for a half marathon, my top is close to the top but down a bit towards the middle.

Different seasons of life will determine where your dot is, and how you eat will reflect that.

For example, right now I am eating to fuel performance with a focus on eating whole foods, but on high-volume training days where it’s hard to get enough calories in, I might have a burger, some pizza, or ice cream to get the calories needed to recover.

This will help guide you as an example

In my opinion, for the everyday individual who wants to train hard but also not let their health control their lives, it will fall somewhere in the middle. Again, it may vary based on the season of life you’re in, so don’t be tied down to one spot on the triangle.

The crazy part of all this is that when you eat to fuel your body properly, you end up looking and feeling better! Below is a picture of me when I was eating 2,300 calories worried about my body composition, and the other is me eating 3,200 calories fueling for performance.

Eat to perform, and you’ll end up looking and feeling better too!

The Power of ‘No’

This past week I hosted an event with creators in Austin, TX with my friend Eric Hinman, and my buddy Bobby Hobert led a workshop on setting boundaries to become more effective, productive, and make time for more of the things that matter to you in life.

The biggest takeaway I had was that I do not have strict boundaries and have been saying yes to too many things which has frustrated me, put a damper on my quality of work, and taken me away from being present in the moment.

Moving forward, I am going to set strict working boundaries and times/days I am available to meet up with people.

Learning to say no is hands down one of the biggest skills we can build in our 20s, and it will pay dividends as we go through life.

Closing Prayer

Lord, you have been so good to me for all these years and have kept me in the palm of your hand. You are a righteous and just God, and you have had mercy on me, a sinner. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live this life according to Your word, and I pray that you help me keep you as my main priority in this Christmas season.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
