Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.
🙏 Opening Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving us not because of what we do but because of who You are. Help us rest in the truth that we don’t need to earn Your favor—we already have it in Christ. Let this week begin with peace, not pressure.
👋 Today at a glance:
Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about surrender and obedience—those are good and necessary. But this week, I was reminded of something even more foundational: your relationship with Jesus is the root of everything. That’s what we’re diving into today, along with some game-changing training principles, fiber insights (yes, really), and why I’m done scheduling coffee meetings before noon.
Let’s get into it.
🙌 FAITH
I want to start with an apology.
In past newsletters, I’ve said things like “obedience creates intimacy with God.” While I still believe obedience matters, a brother in Christ lovingly corrected me, and he was right.
Here’s what he said to me in a text message:
“See Jesus in His beauty, His finished work, and you will effortlessly choose obedience. Obedience is the fruit, not the root.”
That felt like a smack in the face… one that I needed.
Obedience flows from intimacy, not the other way around. If we start from a place of striving to be “good enough” for God, we miss the point of the Gospel. Jesus’ obedience made us righteous. Nothing we do adds to that. Nothing we mess up takes it away.
Let your obedience flow from awe of Him. Not anxiety thinking we have to do anything to earn His grace.
Surround yourself with people who will call you out and correct you when necessary. That’s love.
📖 Romans 5:19 — “For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.”
🏃♂️ FITNESS
Are you feeling stuck and bored in the same old 3x10 routine?
That might be why you’re not progressing.
Here’s what I’ve been doing instead—and what I’ve seen work for countless others:
Strength Phase (3–4 weeks)
4–6 sets of 3–6 reps, 2–3 min rest. Build your base. Push heavy.Hypertrophy Phase (3–4 weeks)
3 sets of 8–12 reps, 60–90 sec rest. Get a pump. Grow muscle.Endurance Phase (2–3 weeks)
2–3 sets of 12–15 reps, 30–45 sec rest. Short rests. High burn.
Cycle these phases, track your weights, and watch your body respond.
I’ve personally seen strength, physique, and endurance improve following a program with this structure, and many of my clients are seeing amazing results as well. Here are some wins my clients have been achieving through this method:

🍽️ NUTRITION
Let’s talk about fiber—the underrated MVP of gut health and performance.
Here’s the deal:
Too little fiber? Constipation, blood sugar swings, low energy.
Too much before training? Bloating, gas, cramping mid-run. Not fun.
🧮 How much fiber do you need?
General rule:
14g per 1,000 calories.
So if you eat ~2,500 cals/day → aim for ~35g fiber.
✅ Easy ways to get more (without gut drama):
Berries with breakfast
Veggies roasted in olive oil at lunch
Chia or flaxseeds in a protein shake
Big salad or plate of veggies again with dinner
👉 Pro tip: Save most of your fiber for after training—not before.
💬 RELATIONSHIPS
My fiancée and I were flying home, and as we were close to landing, we saw a rainbow.
You’re probably thinking, “OK, Dom… so what?”
Here’s why it struck me: literally on that plane ride, I had been reading Genesis 9, where God says the rainbow is a sign of His covenant with humanity—a promise that He would never again destroy the earth by flood.
God doesn’t forget His promises. And He doesn’t break them.
📖 Genesis 9:13 — “I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”
That moment reminded me how everything—marriage, life, purpose—starts with one relationship: our relationship with God. Stay close to Him. Everything else flows from there.
🧠 PERSONAL GROWTH
No more coffee meetups. (At least not in the morning.)
I’ve been going through At Your Best by Carey Nieuwhof and realized something big: we don’t have 8 good working hours. Most people only have 3–5 productive hours a day.
He calls this your Green Zone.
For me, that’s 7 am–12 pm. I used to work out or grab coffee during that time… but that was stealing my best energy from the work God’s called me to do.
🔍 Your task this week:
Find your Green Zone. Ask:
When do I feel most alert, creative, focused?
What drains me the fastest?
What work deserves my best?
Use that zone for your highest calling, not lowest priority.
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You that we don’t have to earn Your love. Help us fix our eyes on You this week, to see Your beauty and rest in Your promises. Let our obedience flow from intimacy, not insecurity. We trust You with our time, our bodies, and our hearts.
Amen.
