Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.
Opening Prayer
Lord, thank you for blessing me with a body that I can glorify you with. Fill me with your Spirit today, Lord, and ignite in me a heart of service to pour into others and point them to you. You are the lamp unto my feet and lead me when I feel weak and unsteady. Thank you for choosing me and equipping me to build your Kingdom.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Fitness of Faith: Why Training Helps Me Show Up Better in Every Area of Life
A couple of years ago, fitness was my number one priority. It was the thing that gave me structure, identity, and a sense of purpose.
Now? Faith comes first.
But that doesn’t mean fitness isn’t important. In fact, I’ve realized that when I take care of my body, I show up better in every area of life—my faith, my relationships, my work, my coaching, and everything in between.
Fitness isn’t everything, but it’s a tool that helps me live out my purpose at the highest level.
1️⃣ Training Helps Me Show Up Fully
I’ve learned the hard way that when I don’t prioritize my health, I don’t operate at my best.
When I’m tired, sluggish, or out of rhythm, my energy suffers. My focus suffers. Even my faith walk suffers because I don’t have the same clarity or discipline to stay consistent in the Word.
But when I’m intentional about taking care of my body?
I have more energy to pour into the things that matter.
I’m sharper, more disciplined, and more focused.
I feel stronger—not just physically, but spiritually and mentally.
It’s not about training for the sake of training. It’s about being ready for whatever God calls me to do.
2️⃣ Faith > Fitness (and I Need People to Keep Me in Check)
As much as I love training, I’ve had to learn to check myself when it starts creeping up too high on my priority list.
If I’m spending more time thinking about my workouts than I am praying… that’s a problem.
If I’m more disciplined about my macros than I am about getting in the Word… that’s a problem.
If I care more about missing a workout than missing time with God, my priorities are out of order. That’s a problem.
That’s why I surround myself with people who will call me out when I need it. Friends, mentors, my community—people who remind me that training is important, but it’s not everything.
Because at the end of the day, my goal isn’t just to be in great shape. My goal is to live in a way that reflects my faith.
And if my actions don’t line up with my priorities, I have to be willing to adjust.
3️⃣ 1 Timothy 4:8—Why I Still Train Hard
Some people think that because faith is my top priority, I don’t take training as seriously anymore.
But that’s not the case at all.
1 Timothy 4:8 (ESV) says:
"For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
Paul isn’t saying fitness doesn’t matter—he’s saying it just doesn’t compare to the eternal value of pursuing God.
But that phrase—"bodily training is of some value"—that still means it has value.
And because I’ve been given this body as a gift, I’m going to steward it well.
Because movement is a privilege, I’m going to treat it with gratitude.
Because I want to be ready for the work God has called me to, I’m going to train like it matters.
4️⃣ Coaching Has Reignited My Passion for Stewardship
Since I started coaching again, my love for fitness has only grown.
Not just because I love training, but because I love seeing others steward the gift God has given them well.
There’s something incredible about watching someone go from:
➡️ Feeling weak and inconsistent to becoming strong and disciplined
➡️ Struggling with confidence to realize what their body is capable of
➡️ Training just to "look good" to training because they respect their body
Seeing people take ownership of their health—not just for themselves, but so they can show up better for their family, their calling, and their faith—fires me up.
That’s why I coach. That’s why I still train hard. That’s why fitness will always be a part of my life.
Because when we train with the right mindset—when we see it as a tool, not an idol—it allows us to live more fully, serve more effectively, and show up more powerfully in every area of life.
Final Thought
Fitness isn’t my top priority anymore. But it still matters.
Not because I want to be the strongest or the fastest. But because when I take care of my body, I can show up better for the things that truly matter.
I can be more present in my relationships.
I can have the energy to pour into my work.
I can push myself in training, knowing that it’s shaping me into someone who is stronger, more disciplined, and more prepared for whatever God has next.
If we’ve been given the gift of movement, it’s our responsibility to steward it well.
Let’s train with purpose. Let’s live with gratitude. And let’s never forget that while fitness is some value—our faith is of eternal value.
Would love to hear your thoughts—how does training help you show up better in your life? Reply and let me know.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank you for delivering me from my sin. I pray that you help me fight the daily battles of temptation and seek first your Kingdom above all else. Thank you that you have given me the sword as your Spirit, and the shield as your Word. Use me as a vessel to carry out your plans, Lord.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
