The Power of Doing Less—and Doing It With Purpose

Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.
🙏 Opening Prayer:
Father, thank You for being our steady guide—whether we’re in the mountains or in the mess. Help us turn to You first in our weakness, invite You into our routines, and walk each day with purpose, discipline, and peace. Amen.
👋 Today’s Snapshot:
I got to spend a few days in Jackson Hole, Wyoming this weekend—and wow. The Tetons blew me away. There’s something about the mountains that always puts things in perspective. From the way we train to the way we eat and communicate, I’ve been reminded that God often works through the simple, steady things—not just the summit moments.
Today’s snapshot:
🙌 FAITH: What the mountains taught me about where my help comes from
🏃♂️ FITNESS: How one client dropped 6 lbs by simplifying his routine
🍽️ NUTRITION: How to eat when you have “nothing” in the fridge
💬 RELATIONSHIPS: The importance of not running from conflict
🧠 PERSONAL GROWTH: A creative unlock that came from posting less
🙌 FAITH
As MJ and I hiked through the Tetons this weekend, I was stunned. Breathtaking mountain peaks, crystal lakes, and beautiful wildlife in every direction. It was the kind of beauty that makes you pause.
We started talking about where in scripture God uses mountains, and I Googled (because tbh I could not remember off the top of my head) where He uses mountains, and it gave me Psalm 121:
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
In our desperation, we often turn to books, podcasts, and YouTube videos to fix our problems. But what if we turned first to God? What if instead of just consuming more, we cultivated intimacy with Him?
The same God who formed the Tetons offers us peace, guidance, and comfort every single day. All we have to do is look up.
Prompt: Where are you tempted to turn elsewhere before turning to God?

🏃♂️ FITNESS
One of my clients just dropped 6 pounds in a month—not with anything extreme, just by doing less, but doing it better.
He went from running every day and lifting 4–5x/week with zero results, to:
3 full-body lifts/week
10k steps/day
3 consistent high-protein meals throughout the day
~150–180g protein/day
No more fasting/binging cycle
The key? Intention. We simplified, systematized, and shifted from a reactive to a proactive approach.
And while the weight loss is great, I’m most proud of how he’s grown spiritually.

These are the messages that light me up!

🍽️ NUTRITION
Came home from Jackson Hole late Sunday night. Monday and Tuesday were slammed. No groceries. No plan.
As tempted as I was to order some tacos on DoorDash, I took it as a challenge.
Instead, I got creative:
Meal 1: Egg white wraps + canned salmon
Snack: Protein pudding bowl w/ Noble Origins, Cowboy Colostrum, oat milk, blueberries, honey, cacao nibs
Dinner: Goodles Mac & Cheese + frozen broccoli + frozen cod
Next day? Same story. Dug into the pantry, freezer, and leftovers, and still hit over 200g protein both days.
Not glamorous. But it worked. As you are intentional about learning about nutrition, you’ll be able to develop the tools and skills to be adaptable and eat for your goals with whatever is available to you.
Prompt: What’s your best “I had no food so I made THIS” meal? Reply and let me know—might test it for a future post.
💬 RELATIONSHIPS
I used to run—literally—any time conflict came up at home. Oldest child, divorced parents, always felt torn between sides. So I learned to escape instead of engage.
Even now, I notice it: I deflect. I avoid. I downplay.
But by God’s grace, I’ve grown. MJ and I talk openly about our differences. She calls me out when I try to slip away from hard conversations. And she’s taught me that peace doesn’t mean silence—it means presence.
“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
Prompt: What conflict are you being invited to face instead of flee this week?
🧠 PERSONAL GROWTH
I posted on Instagram once last week. That used to stress me out big time.
But here’s the cold, hard truth: our best ideas don’t come when we’re grinding—they come when we pause.
While hiking in Wyoming, I asked God to speak into my content. I looked at what resonated, and I stopped forcing it and instead started listening.
I came out of the weekend with more clarity, creativity, and alignment with what I feel the Lord is placing on my heart to share.
If you’ve been forcing something lately, maybe it’s time to step back and ask God to fill the space you’ve been trying to control.
Prompt: Where do you need to step back and let God lead?
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for the reminder that You are our help, our healer, and our hope. We surrender our striving, our planning, and our fear—and invite You to take the lead in every area of our lives this week. Use our bodies, our time, and our gifts for Your glory. Amen.
