Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.

Opening Prayer

Lord, You are our refuge and our strength, our ever-present help in times of trouble. Teach us to surrender our burdens to You, to rest in Your promises, and to lean on the community You have given us. Let us not be afraid to bring our struggles into the light, knowing that in our weakness, Your strength is made perfect. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

When We Strive, We Grow Weary

This week at Bible study, we found ourselves talking about a theme we all know too well—striving for worldly things and ending up exhausted. We chase after success and approval, but it never feels like enough. Instead, we end up drained, anxious, and overwhelmed.

Scripture reminds us of this truth over and over again:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28

God never designed us to carry our burdens alone. He calls us to rest in Him, to trust in His provision, and to surrender the weight we’re not meant to bear. But too often, we try to tough it out, pretending we’re fine when we’re really not.

Breaking Down Can Set Us Free

At the end of our study, one of the guys in our group turned to another who hadn’t spoken yet and simply asked, “Do you have anything to share?”

What happened next was powerful.

He let out a deep sigh, as if he had been holding something in for way too long. He admitted how tired he was—mentally, physically, and spiritually. He shared financial struggles, and the pressure of always showing up for others while feeling drained himself.

That moment of honesty and vulnerability was a breakthrough. We asked if we could pray over him, and he said yes. We all laid hands on him and lifted him up in prayer, asking that he would find rest in the Lord’s power, provision, and plan. We prayed for renewed strength, for trust in God’s timing, and for a deep sense of peace.

And then, he broke down.

Tears streamed down his face—not from weakness, but from release. The relief was visible in his voice and posture. He realized, maybe for the first time in a while, that God had him in the palm of His hand.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

Why We’re Afraid to Be Vulnerable

So often, we fear being vulnerable because we don’t want to be seen as weak. We think we have to hold it together, figure it out on our own, or put on a brave face. But God never asked us to do life alone.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

— Galatians 6:2

Vulnerability isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s an act of trust. It’s an invitation for God’s power to work in our lives. When we keep everything bottled up, we block ourselves off from the healing and strength that come from surrendering to Him and allowing others to walk alongside us.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:9

God Can Lift the Weight You’re Feeling

If you’re carrying something heavy right now, don’t hold it in. God already knows every thought you have, every worry weighing you down. He is waiting for you to come to Him.

And beyond that, He has placed people in your life to support you. Find those people. Share your struggles. Ask for prayer. Don’t let pride or fear keep you from the freedom found in bringing things into the light.

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

This week, take a step toward vulnerability. Bring your burdens to God in prayer. Open up to a trusted friend, mentor, or community. Ask for prayer when you need it.

Because when we stop pretending to be strong, we allow God to show us what true strength really is.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for being a God who knows us, loves us, cares for us, and has a plan for us. Help us to let go of the burdens we are carrying and find rest in You. Give us the courage to be vulnerable in moments of weakness, and eager to help our brothers and sisters when they need it. We surrender it all to You, and trust in Your perfect plan. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
