Why I’m Okay Being Average (and You Should Be Too)

How a quiet apostle, a hard sprint, and a missed door check my heart and habits.

Welcome to One Day Out, a weekly newsletter to help deepen your faith, enhance your health, and guide you in pursuing a purpose-filled life.

🙏 Opening Prayer:

Lord, thank You for this new week. Help us embrace the ordinary moments You use to shape us. Teach us to walk in obedience, serve with joy, and remain faithful in the small things that glorify You.

👋 Note from me:

We’re constantly told to stand out, do more, be more. But this week, God reminded me—there’s nothing wrong with being “average” by the world’s standards if you’re being obedient to Him.

Whether it was reading about Andrew (a quiet apostle), pushing through hill sprints, or realizing I’d gotten lazy with something as simple as holding the door open for my fiancée… each moment checked my heart. It’s not about being impressive. It’s about being faithful.

🙌 FAITH

This week I was reminded: being “ordinary” in the world’s eyes doesn’t disqualify you from living an extraordinary life for God.

I read about Andrew, one of Jesus’ apostles. Not part of the “inner circle” like Peter, James, and John. R. Kent Hughes described him as “a great-hearted man of average abilities who loved to introduce others to Christ.”

That’s it. No spotlight, no stage. Just obedience and evangelism.

You don’t need influence to be impactful. You just need faith and a willingness to share it.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)

Challenge: What has the fear of being seen as “ordinary” held you back from doing?

🏃‍♂️ FITNESS

I’ve started doing weekly hill sprints again—and it’s been humbling in the best way.

Sprinting is one of the most powerful ways to build strength, boost testosterone, burn fat, and challenge your limits. Even just one session a week can shift your entire physiology.

Try this workout:

  • 5–10 min jog warmup

  • Sprint up a hill (full effort) for 10–15 sec

  • Walk back down, rest 2 min

  • Repeat for 4–6 rounds

  • 5–10 min cooldown jog

Quick. Intense. No fluff. The kind of thing that makes you better in less than 30 minutes.

🍽️ NUTRITION

I’ve been aiming for 30 plants per week—fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, herbs. Sounds excessive… but it’s really not.

Dr. Will Bulsiewicz talked about how diverse fiber intake supports gut health, immunity, performance, and longevity. So I started building bowls like this one and hit 13 plants in one meal:

  • Spinach, arugula, sweet potato, red bell pepper, purple cabbage

  • White onion, green onion, cilantro, avocado

  • Pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds

  • Garlic (in a harissa dressing)

Still protein-forward, just way more color and fiber.

Send me what bowl combos you’re trying this week!

💬 RELATIONSHIPS

I stopped opening the car door for my fiancée. Not on purpose—just got lazy.

It may seem like a small thing. But small things add up.

Being a man of God means showing love in the day-to-day, not just in the big gestures. That door reminded me: intentionality matters.

Men—don’t just lead in prayer. Lead in consistency.
Women—pray for men who don’t just talk about love, but live it.

🧠 PERSONAL GROWTH

Alex Hormozi said something that stopped me in my tracks:

“Makers need time. Managers need structure.”

If you’re a creator or entrepreneur, a full calendar can be your enemy. You need uninterrupted blocks to actually create—no calls, no back-to-back meetings, no task switching.

So I’ve started structuring my days like this:

  • Mornings = Creative Work (writing, filming, designing)

  • Afternoons = Admin & Calls

Protect your highest-leverage output. Don’t just fill your calendar—own it.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for using the ordinary to grow extraordinary faith. Help us walk with humility, live with intention, and love with consistency this week. May we obey You in the little things, knowing You see it all.
